Canvas and First Week Tips from New Faculty Orientation

On January 6, the CLT hosted orientation for all new faculty! Many thanks to Dr. Roz Whitaker-Heck for MCing, faculty speakers David Rous, Miriam Horne, Kerry Noonan, and Eric Hoffman, and all of the many campus resource representatives who shared their wisdom.

Here are two recorded sessions from orientation that may be useful to all faculty as you prepare your Canvas courses and your plans for the remote opening of the semester. (We apologize that closed captions for these videos are not fully correct at this point.)

Canvas Overview

Caroline Toy (CLT Learning Experience Designer) presents an overview of Canvas for new users, with a refresher on how to create an assignment and put it in an assignment group — an essential part of setting up the gradebook.

Preparing for the First Week

Miriam Horne (Core, CLT faculty lead) presents strategies and advice for planning an engaging first week of class, including strategies that work well in a remote environment.
